16 Feb 4 Reasons Not to Skip Tanning Aftercare
It’s no secret that airbrush tanning is one of the best ways to get a natural-looking glow. But let us tell you something that we tell all of our clients here at Vanity Vault: proper care is necessary to get the best results.
If you want your tan to last as long as possible and look its best, you can’t skip the aftercare routine. Keep reading to get the full scoop on what you can expect directly after your tanning session and why you should keep up with a proper aftercare routine.
What To Expect Post-Airbrush Tanning Sessions
After the technician finishes your airbrush tanning session, you will be given specific instructions on what to do and not do. In general, you should expect the following:
- DHA will continue to develop over the next 12-24 hours, so avoid water contact and sweating.
- You may have some bronzing where the tan was applied, but this will fade after you do your first rinse
- The final result will be slightly deeper in color than the initial application, typically over the next few hours as the DHA reacts with the amino acids in the epidermis.
The Importance of Tanning Aftercare
We’ll say it again: Proper care is necessary to get the best results from your airbrush tan. Here are four reasons why you can’t skip the aftercare routine:
1. You’ll get a longer-lasting tan
Generally, airbrush tanning lasts anywhere from five to ten days. But if you don’t properly care for your skin, it’ll fade much faster than that- sometimes in as little as two or three days.
By using a paraben-free & alcohol-free lotion like our SunnaTan Cactus & Agave Hydrate Me body lotion daily and avoiding activities that can strip the tan off of your skin, you’ll be able to enjoy a longer-lasting glow.
2. You’ll avoid patchiness
The last thing you want is patches on your skin that make it look like the tan didn’t take. To avoid this, use a moisturizer daily and keep dry areas well-hydrated.
If you’re really struggling with patchiness, we recommend using our SunnaTan Buff Me Exfoliating Mitt to help buff away any dry or dead skin cells to prep your body for your spray tan. This will give your tan a smooth canvas to work with and ensure that it looks as natural as possible.
3. You’ll avoid streaking
While airbrush tanning is a great way to achieve an even-looking glow, your aftercare routine is still important in order to avoid streaks.
Right after you’re done tanning, avoid any excessive sweating or contact with water. This means no working out, swimming, or even showering for at least 12 hours. The time that you spend waiting for your tan to set is a crucial step in ensuring an even, streak-free color. Allowing the color to develop properly will help avoid any mishaps.
After you’ve waited the appropriate amount of time, be sure to moisturize your skin every day. This will help keep your tan looking its best and prevent it from fading too quickly.
4. You’ll get a better tan next time
Your aftercare routine isn’t only important to keep your current airbrush tan looking its best. It can also determine how well your next session goes!
Moisturizing your skin daily will help keep it well-hydrated, and using a tan extender or moisturizer that’s specifically designed for airbrush tans will also make sure that you get the best results next time.
